ABOUT THE DOCTOR

Dr. Andrew Gunter is a fifth-generation Texan and residency-trained podiatric surgeon dedicated to bringing world-class foot and ankle care home to San Antonio. A biology graduate of the University of Texas at Dallas, he earned his Doctor of Podiatric Medicine from Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine in Philadelphia — one of the nation’s leading podiatric medical schools.

Dr. Gunter completed his surgical residency at NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital within the NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell system — one of the most prestigious academic medical centers in the United States. It was ranked at #3 in the nation during his tenure in the system. His residency provided a breadth of surgical experience that few programs can match, spanning limb salvage and preservation, complex reconstructive procedures, elective foot and ankle surgery, and pediatric podiatry. It is this depth of training that Dr. Gunter now brings to every patient he sees in San Antonio.

Dr. Gunter believes that great podiatric care starts with a great conversation. Before recommending any treatment, he takes the time to understand not just your diagnosis, but your lifestyle, your goals, and what getting back on your feet actually means for your daily life. His approach is straightforward: clear explanations, honest options, and a plan built around you — whether you're an athlete working toward a return-to-sport goal, a working professional who needs to get through the day without pain, or a senior patient managing a long-term condition.

A proud San Antonian, Dr. Gunter enjoys exploring the city’s restaurant scene and live music venues with his fiancée. He is a lifelong music fan with a particular fondness for punk rock, indie, and alt country — and will rarely pass up a good show. At home, he and his fiancée share their life with a miniature schnauzer named Hank and an orange cat named Louie, both of whom he adores.

A Different Approach to Foot & Ankle Care

Dr. Gunter believes that the best medical care happens when a patient truly understands what is going on with their body — and feels genuinely heard.

Dr. Gunter built this practice around a simple idea: that every patient deserves a clear explanation of their diagnosis, honest and transparent options for treatment, and a plan they feel confident in — not one that was decided before they walked in the room. He takes the time to answer questions fully, to explain the reasoning behind his recommendations, and to make sure that no one leaves the office with more uncertainty than they arrived with.

This practice is intentionally independent. Dr. Gunter is not part of a large hospital system or a corporate-owned super group. That independence means that his recommendations are driven entirely by what is right for his patients — not by productivity targets, corporate protocols, or financial incentives that have nothing to do with your care.

From the first visit to the last follow-up, you will receive the kind of unhurried, personalized attention that used to be the standard in medicine — and that Dr. Gunter is committed to keeping that way.
